Should I.... race????

Ok, here's the deal...

There is a half iron aquabike this weekend. No running. Just 1.2 miles of glorious open water swimming topped off with a 56 mile tour of lovely Mentor Ohio. The race starts and ends at my favorite beach and I'll get to see a couple dozen of my favorite people racing. Plus, I think the race director is a great guy and if I'm going to give my money to any race in NE Ohio it would definitely be the Greater Cleveland Triathlon

But of course... I've biked 1 time in the past 3 weeks and zero swims.

So should I go get a whopping dose of humble pie on Sunday?

I was thinking of a race plan like this:

Swim balls out and pedal as fast as I can until my legs build up so much lactic acid that I can taste it. Then spin into the finish with my tail between my legs.

No heart rate monitor, no watch, no bike computer. Just me, my Nineteen wetsuit, and Mike Honcho

Or I could just sleep in and go on my favorite weekly ride. This is all if I can actually get off work, of course. So what do you think? At the very least it will make for one hell of a funny story

:-)

Can't wait to see you at the start!

You will be fine swimming and riding. The course is so much easier and faster than previous years!!

Hope to see you on Sat/Sun :-)

As you always say to Angry Runner:
"Man up and do it!" What's the worst that can happen...you drown on the swim , or crash on the bike...You only have one life ( at least in my theology) So live it up...it's better than sitting at home with the pager waiting for rounds to start.

There is something I want to get off my chest. It's about this summer, when you went away to graduate school. I got an offer to do a half iron aquabike, and I did it. I went balls out on the swim and pedaled till I could taste the lactic acid. I mean pain man, I pulled my butt apart and stuff. I was totally wasted. it was weird, I... I mean you probably didn't hear about it because I raced with Mike Honcho. But I just wanted you to know that. If you can hear me, if it got into your brain somehow. That I raced with Mike Honcho.

That last comment was supposed to be by Jodi. I say do it Jodi! You will probably be very suprised with how you perform but most of all just have fun! :)

There's nothing like racing for the pure joy of it - no worries about PRs, HRs, or finish times.

You already "proved" yourself this year, Jodi - just go out there and have some fun.

If you wuss out, Mickey is dying for volunteers. He's really understaffed, again.

I think you should go for it and then come volunteer at Matt's and my run aid station (we're the one in the park). What do you think? Miss you!

Do it. You will regret it if you don't.

I'm betting a substantial amount of money that nobody who reads your blog is going to tell you NOT to do it. So just get on with it already.

Of course, you could do the whole race in scrubs and a mask just for laughs...or not. ;-)

Sounds like a good game plan. You'll be out there to have fun! No pressure!

Why not? If you have the time and the dough and know you'd have fun, then there's no reason not to do it!

I'm thinking my comment is too late anyhow... .but still I'd set the alarm and when it went off assess if you need more sleep/ R&R or whether you want to get up an do it. You are capable for sure!

:o)
