I Think I'm Gonna Hurl

Where were you guys when I needed you? All I needed was for someone to tell me to STEP AWAY FROM THE COOKIE DOUGH! But no. No one came to my rescue. Still no one was there for me when the cookies were done to tell me to STEP AWAY FROM THE COOKIES! Seriously, I thought you guys were my friends.

So I have really been trying to comment on everyone's blogs the past few days but blogger has not been kind. I switched to blogger beta a couple days ago, and have determined that it just might be the devil. I have typed up at least a dozen replies to people's blogs only to be told that I can't log in or that my password is incorrect. Ugh.

And for more random thoughts....

1. Swelling has gone down in my legs! And to offset the water weight that I have lost I have made sure to eat it's weight in chocolate and cookies. I feel like a fat tick. However, I have been warned by my coach that I had better enjoy this recovery week because she is going to make me wish I had never pronounced the word Ironman next week. 2 days with one workout, 4 days with 2 workouts, 1 day with 3 workouts. 12,000 yards in the pool, 3.5 hours of running, 5 hours of cycling, and strength training for good measure. I think the weight should come off nicely :)

2. Never, ever doubt your coach. I know from experience. Since I have been doing so much long slow running I was really starting to think that it was ruining my speed. I mean, how can you possibly run fast when you are stuck in training at 10:30 miles? I was getting very frustrated. When it came time to race and Angela wanted me to stay in my heart rate zones for the race I begged her to let me run it. I just needed to prove to myself that I could still run. One last hurrah before I resign myself back to 10 minute miles for the next 6 months. She was supportive of my request. Still I was convinced that I was going to run a 2:00 half. Which would have killed my spirits since I ran a 1:58 before I started my triathlon training. Well, she was right. I PRed by almost 6 minutes and felt absolutely fabulous the whole time. I will stop complaining about my slow running now. And I will listen to her without question. I mean, I do pay her good money for her expertise. I'd have to be a moron to ignore it!

3. Water Polo. Yeah baby! My master's team has started a water polo session on the weekends. I don't know if I've mentioned this, but I was on the Wisconsin water polo team for a year. I loved it, but I was absolutely terrible. I'm so excited to have another team to play with to show off my mad skills.

That's all I've got for now. My head has been pounding for the past 6 hours now and I can't think straight. I think it's time for bed...

Good to hear the swelling has subsided.

step away from the cookies... just kidding!! enjoy them, you'll be in the thick of your cda training soon enough and you probably won't want them, so enjoy now.

I really like your idea of listening more to your coach. I recently went through the same thought process. Glad to hear your legs are doing better! :)

Mmmm.. Coookie. I think you probably needed it!

That is one big week- how are you going to find time for waterpolo?!

I'm having trouble commenting too- hopefully this time'll work...

If I was a coach, that is exactly the way I would pop a big fat future ironman tick... 12.5K in the pool. LOL. In my short tenure as a runner, I've already learned to build endurance, then burn it out quickly on my 5Ks :-) Yay for water polo! Can't wait to hear about your games.

As I am reading your post, I am eating a huge chocolate chip cookie. I keep saying "just one more bite and then I'll put it away". I think I'll finish it instead. Angela will be killing me soon too.

You didn't look like a fat tick this morning!

Oh, and do trust Angela. She rocks!

Ok Jodi, here's the deal. I've got to lay off the cookies as well. Too much sugar in the body is a bad thing! Soooo hard to resist when you crave a mid afternoon snack and a large cookie goes really well with a mocha or hot chocolate... Mmmmm...

So my plan, you stay off the cookies and I'll stay off the cookies. Deal? Whoever falls off the wagon first has to wear a swim cap to work! <<< Motivation through embarrassment - pictures required!

Send me some of the left over cookies down here to Nashville! Uh, what? There are no more.

Bad Jodi!

It sounds like you could eat all you want and it WILL come off because of your training schedule. Go ahead and carb up!

Good to hear about your canklelessness.

Cookies for you, bread for me. I think I ate 5 dinner rolls the other night. I just can't say no!

Enjoy the last few days of recovery week!

That sounds like a heck of week coming.
Used to love eating chocalate chip cookie dough more than the baked cookies.
Today the commenting seems to be working!!

I'm with you on the cookies. My wife is officially getting into the Christmas spirit which basically means she's baking and I'm eating. Uggghhh.

I may have to add some distance to my 17 miler tomorrow to help alleviate some of this "girth".

Enjoy the recovery...you deserve it.

I love cookie dough. It's okay to indulge, once in awhile. Hey, it's one of the perks of training, right?

Sounds like you have a killer week planned. Jeez. Hang in there. I can't believe you play water polo on top of it.

Great tip about slowing down to go faster. Sounds so counter-intuitive. I think I really have to take it to heart now.

Running slow endurance paces really works. My coach has me keep my HR under 162 for all my runs (not counting intervals). During my marathon training, I ran a 1/2 marathon and a 5K race just for training. I didn't PR but I could have easily PR-ed had that been the goal. My marathon was last Sunday. I met my goal and even PR-ed my 1/2 marathon time in the middle of my first marathon. Keep it slow, you'll kickass!!!

Cookie dough, cookies, even the creamed butter and sugar... it's all so good (I mean bad, but good). I'm taking this as inspiration to be good over the holidays, but it's so tough!
