If you are brave and are prepared to suffer and are looking just to finish and want the crazy experience then I would. Better go with a humble spirit with not much expectations.
I love 70.3 races! It's just enough to remind you that you are human but at the same time feel like you are invincible when you cross the finish line! Ironman puts on the "industry standard" of 70.3 but there are a lot of other great races. I say go local for your first and if you like it then go tropical (St Croix)! Good luck!
Steelhead could be fun! GCT is nice and local to save some dough...killer bike course though!I did the Deer Creek Pineman last Sept. and had a great first 70.3 experience there! I say go for it--you're training's been solid and you've still got 2-3 months to kick it up a bit...

Hmmm, I debated the same thing earlier this year and still think about still from time to time....
Dang, Steelhead seems pricey!
